Winamp's been in it's death throes for quite a while (since they stopped updating Winamp 2.X to work on Winamp 3.0, IMHO). Eventually everyone else's player started catching up and surpassing them. Plus its tough to compete with WMP being bundled with Windows.
Still, I agree that it is sad to see them go.
